Biographies - Mike Underwood
Mike Underwood has over 30 years Air Transport industry experience. He held several senior management positions within the British Airways Procurement department, including General Manager Service Contracts and General Manager Aircraft and Engineering Purchasing. In the latter role he was personally responsible for over 20 large scale transactions in buying, leasing and selling of aircraft.
Mike ran the airline's Ground Handling Contracts department and was the British Airways representative on the IATA Ground Handling Council and Aviation Ground Services Agreements working group. He was also the Senior Purchasing Representative of a cross-functional group whose main objective was to outsource BA's Ground Fleet Services and Catering operations.
Following his time in Purchasing, Mike was Head of Risk Management for three years, leading BA's insurance purchasing efforts through the industry turbulence following the events of 9/11 and was a director of the airline's offshore insurance captive.
Since leaving British Airways in 2002, Mike has provided vital consultancy to such corporations as Willis, bmi, Air 2000, First Choice Airways, Royal Airways and Technical and Logistics Services Ltd., among others.
